Choose the job before the hero.

Build around faction synergy, troop type, role, and position first. Raw power alone does not determine which five heroes make the strongest march.

Progression efficiency

Hero Progression: build the breakpoint, not just the biggest number

Hero fragments and EXP become dramatically more expensive late in the progression curve. Keep the main formation strong, but know when one more upgrade is costing more than the alternatives.

Stars

4★ is the major practical breakpoint.

For a permanent main-formation hero, 4★ deserves priority because it unlocks the fourth Specialty skill. The final move from 4★ to 5★ costs 500 fragments by itself — more than the 475 fragments required to go all the way from 0★ to 4★.

Default: build the permanent core to 4★ before casually chasing isolated 5★ heroes.
Hero EXP

Level 165 is a late-game decision point.

Hero EXP accelerates sharply at the top of the level curve. Going from 165 → 175 costs 10.25B EXP per hero. That does not make 170–175 bad — your primary formation still benefits — but the opportunity cost is now large enough to compare against other deployed heroes.

Default: keep Formation 1 strong, but reassess EXP distribution once the core reaches the 160–165 range.
Practical route

Build heroes in layers.

  1. Choose the heroes that are actually staying. Universal fragments are too valuable to sink heavily into a hero you expect to replace.
  2. Establish the main five. Concentrate stars, levels, skills, and equipment on the formation that fights for you every day.
  3. Reach 3★, then push the permanent core toward 4★. The 4★ Specialty unlock is more meaningful than looking only at raw stats-per-fragment.
  4. Choose 5★ upgrades deliberately. Prioritize heroes whose 5★ effect, higher skill cap, or long-term formation role justifies the 500-fragment final star.
  5. At very high hero levels, compare the next five levels against the rest of the roster. EXP spent on 170–175 cannot also strengthen another deployed formation.

The final star is more expensive than the first four combined.

0★ → 4★ costs 475 fragments. 4★ → 5★ costs another 500. That final star alone consumes about 51% of the entire 0★ → 5★ fragment budget.

Star earnedFragments for this starCumulativePractical read
1★2525Very inexpensive early development
2★5075Still cheap relative to later stars
3★100175Strong attainable core milestone
4★300475Unlocks the fourth Specialty skill
5★500975Expensive; prioritize by actual 5★ value

Important: diminishing fragment efficiency does not mean “never 5★.” A powerful 5★ effect, Level 30 skill access, Hall of Honor plans, or a permanent carry can easily justify the cost. The point is to make the 500-fragment decision intentionally.

The last ten levels cost 10.25B EXP per hero.

Each row below buys the same five hero levels, but the EXP bill rises from 1.35B at 150→155 to 6B at 170→175.

Level rangeHQ required for capEXP requiredIncrease vs. 150→155
150 → 155HQ 311.35B1.00×
155 → 160HQ 322.16B1.60×
160 → 165HQ 333.10B2.30×
165 → 170HQ 344.25B3.15×
170 → 175HQ 356.00B4.44×
150 → 1656.61B EXP
165 → 17510.25B EXP

High-level heroes still gain stats and remain important in Formation 1. This is an opportunity-cost checkpoint, not a hard stopping rule. Low spenders especially should ask whether the next expensive five levels outperform bringing another hero they actively deploy closer to the fight.
